PLCT Survey Results

Results and responses to the survey carried out by the PLCT in May 2010 into grant making and funding needs

First and foremost - thank you to all those individuals and organisations who took the time to complete the PLCT survey in May. In total we had 68 responses. Your thoughts and comments have been insightful, challenging and very informative.

The overall aim of the survey was to help the PLCT to further improve the grant-making and support services it provides. More specifically the survey looked at the following questions:

1) Does the PLCT provide a good service to grant applicants and other partner organisations?

2) What is the PLCT doing well?

3) What could the PLCT improve on?

4) What prevents people from applying to the PLCT?

5) What are the funding and support needs of voluntary sector organisations working with young people in Gloucestershire?

So, what were the results?

Positives:

People welcomed opportunity to feedback to the PLCT via the survey

People thought the open meeting for interested applicants was very helpful

The introduction of a two-stage application process for the 2010-11 grant round was seen as a good innovation

Communication received from the PLCT was rated positively in terms of appropriateness, clarity, detail and timeliness

General observations:

Age-groups targeted  - organisations were asked what age groups they target, the lowest number of responses was for the 0-5 age bracket. No one ticked the option to say that they provided ante-natal support.

Funding is primarily required for core cost and existing work

Responses from organisations in Stroud District and Tewkesbury District were low (7.5% of respondents each, compare to 37% of respondents being based in Gloucester District)

There was strong support for the PLCT setting up a small grants programme (88%)

Negatives:

33% of respondents had not heard of the PLCT

33% felt that the application process was too long and monitoring demands were too heavy

The timing of the last grant round, especially over Christmas 2009, did not leave enough time for completing application forms. The time between the open meeting and the deadline for Expressions of Interest was also too short (we also had a comment that the process took too long - so there is delicate balance to be achieved).

Timing - was the main reason given for people choosing not to apply i.e. the PLCT once a year grant round did not fit with their needs, or clashed with other funders.

Website - information on the PLCT website needs to be more clear and information on it easier to find

What next?

The PLCT is now in the process of preparing for its next grant round which will launch in the autumn. Our intention is to respond to the feedback received through this survey and improve our grant-making as a result. Please do follow the news section on our website for details of key developments over the coming months.

And..

Congratulations to Play Gloucestershire who were selected from al the respondents to receive a day''s free organisational consultation from the PLCT Development Officer.
