2008 Achievement Awards Evening for Gloucestershire's children in care
September 2008 saw the 5th annual Achievement Awards Evening for children in care in the county of Gloucestershire.

Children in care and care leavers who have just passed their GCSEs, A Levels or vocational qualifications celebrated their success at a special event on September 26th at the Peter Lang Children’s Trust Achievement Awards Evening.
42 young people (plus friends and carers) attended this prestigious event at the Gloucestershire College’s Renaissance Restaurant. The evening was aunique opportunity to celebrate the success and hard work of these exceptional young people. Each young guest was presented with a Certificate recognising his or her achievements and a cash award. The Peter Lang Children’s Trust was again proud to be provide the costs for the event and the awards.
Among the awards given will be five Star Awards of £500 each, which specifically recognised those young people who had been successful in obtaining a place at university. The PLCT was delighted to have obtained sponsorship for two of these awards from Cheltenham based UCAS. At present researchs suggest that across England less than 1% of young people access higher education and through their sponsorship UCAS wished to recognise the achievement of these young people. The PLCT will sponsored a further two Star Awards, and the Virtual School for Looked After Children (GCC) sponsored the fifth award.
Rrenowned educator and neuroscientist Dr Roy Paget was the evening’s guest speaker and presented the awards to the young people in attendance. The evening’s disco was provided by Severn Sound, and presenter Joe Lemar was evening’s compere, a veteran of the event having being involved now for 5 years.
This was the 5th annual awards evening run in a unique partnership between the Peter Lang
Children’s Trust and the Children and Young People’s Directorate - Gloucestershire County Council. The recent addition of UCAS’s support and involvement represented an exciting development in this annual awards event.
